  • Yes, VA Disability is the same for Active, Reserve and National Guard members.

  • A Veteran can use military service records, medical examinations, and private treatment records to substantiate a claim.

  • Yes, a PTSD diagnosis is not solely related to combat.  There can be any number of traumatic events that can cause a PTSD diagnosis. Your claim will be evaluated based on the symptoms.

  • Yes, a Veteran can receive both VA Disability and Social Security Disability. However, a Veteran cannot receive both a VA Pension and Social Security at the same time.

  • Yes, VDLF can request your complete military record file from the VA and VA law allows lay statements, which are statements from member you served with who can verify that an incident occurred on your behalf.

  • Yes, VA does accept your private doctor’s medical records and opinions when evaluating a claim.  In some instances we may recommend an Independent Medical Examination by a doctor outside the VA.

  • Yes, any attorney working on your claim will be accredited by the Department of Veteran Affairs, which means the attorney has been undergone an extensive background check by the VA and is required to perform continuing legal education to maintain his VA accredited status.

  • Yes, This is referred to as secondary service-connection.  If your medical condition and symptoms show they were caused by a preexisting condition you may be eligible.
